Located 35 mi (50 km) from Denver, the city of Boulder is a prominent center in Colorado's Front Range. The city is well known for its commitment to preserving the area—s natural environments, showcased through its Open Space and Mountain Trails, which support a range of outdoor recreational opportunities for all levels. The largest collegiate institution in the state, the University of Colorado, is located within the city and provides guided campus tours for visitors. Many theatrical and cultural performances are held at the University's Macky Auditorium. The nearby Leanin— Tree Museum of Western Art is a free museum exhibiting a private collection of American Western art, including bronze sculptures, landscapes and wildlife. Family-oriented activities, such as go-karting and mini golf, are featured at the Gateway Park Fun Center and on weekends the Fiske Planetarium/Sommer Bausch Observatory welcomes people to learn about the universe.
